Both my wife and I are registered with myschoolclosures to receive sms text messages when Wilsden is closed. Neither of us have received a single message throughout last week nor today.

Has anybody received a notification yet from this service?

Thanks Sharon. These things only come to light the first time they are put to the test. At least I DID read the school closure message that was posted so I wasn't misled by the external link. At least the school is aware of the issue now so you can review any changes required. The page is now showing a School Closed graphic and message so things have finally been updated from the school closures site.
The wilsdenprimary website will be my first port of call in future and I won't be relying on the myschoolclosures service for notification.

I read the section on the myschoolclosures site about how they operate. It seems that anybody can notify them that the school is closed and give a reason for the closure. Before changing the status of the school, which results in the texts and e-mails being distributed, they say that they have to call the school on the school's official number. This seems sensible, otherwise kids would be closing the school for a laugh. The official school number is printed on the school's page and is the number I had been calling all morning to find out if the school was open, but with no reply. It is not surprising that they wouldn't be able to gain confirmation of the school closure on a number that wasn't answered. I suspect most parents were also phoning this number!

There was I, stupidly thinking that this company would have inside knowledge, directly from the Bradford schools department or even a special hotline to the school or head to find out this information. Their confirmation procedure is fundamentally flawed if it is their actual verification process. If nobody can get to school, there won't be anybody there to answer the phone to confirm that there is nobody there... if you see what I mean. It looks like a successful way of gathering names with associated valid e-mail addresses and mobile phone numbers. Marketing's holy grail.

My advice is to wait before you sign up. Make sure the word 'beta' is no longer on the myschoolclosures home page.

Unfortunately, the green circle and tick is a live feed from the school closures websie and as I could not update that site, it could not be altered. In hindsight, it may have been better just to remove the link completely. Sorry for the confusion.

This 'School CLOSED' message informs parents and teachers that the school is closed, yet the 'IS the school open?' section in the top right of the page is showing a tick symbol in a green circle and the message 'Wilsden Primary School is open'.

This is very confusing. At a glance, when trying to defrost the car and get out to work, the tick is the first thing you see. Perhaps the message in the top right is linked to and controlled by the Bradford schools website but if so, it would be better if this part of the page was not displayed at all. The www.wilsden.ngfl.ac.uk site does not appear to be redirecting correctly, probably due to the number of website hits so there is nothing to provide a double check.

Hello,

My name is Joyce Munro. I used to be Joyce Swinburne and lived in Bingley. I had a friend called Jean Ayers who lived in Wilsden in the 1950s and must have attended WEilsden Primary School prior to her secondary education. We both went to Sir Titus Salts Grammar School. I used to meet Jean every morning at Bingley and we would travel to Saltaire on the bus together. I would love to get in touch with her again after all this time and wonder if anyone in the village remembers her or her family and could maybe put us in touch or give me any information.

Many thanks
